The Maharashtra government will now decide Mumbai Police Commissioner R S Sharma's fate, by considering the points made against him in the Special Investigation Team report on the fake stamp paper scam.
While submitting the report to the Bombay high court on Wednesday, the counsel for the government, Goolam Vahanvati, requested that a copy be made available to Chief Minister Sushilkumar Shinde. Chief Justice C K Thakkar and Justice Abhay Oka, who were listening to a bunch of public interest litigations filed by social activist Anna Hazare and others demanding action against those involved in the case, agreed.

Sharma will retire on November 30, and is due to get a promotion before that.
One of the petitioners raised questions about the safety of Abdul Karim Telgi, the main accused in the case, and said his security should be ensured.
But B R Nanjundaiah, counsel for the Karnataka government, assured the court that Telgi was safe in the Karnataka police's custody.
On former Pune additional commissioner S M Mushrif's allegation that ACP Mohammed Mulani and Inspector Prakash Deshmukh had shielded Telgi, the court asked the SIT to probe the matter and take suitable action.
The SIT report was not given to the petitioners keeping in mind that investigations were still on.
The court will now hear the matter on November 27.
