Shahrukh gets civic notice for building violation

July 04, 2008 20:15 IST

The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai has issued a notice to Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan for using his residence for commercial purposes.

"Notice has been issued to Shahrukh's Red Chilli Entertainment Pvt Ltd on Thursday for unauthorised change in user and violation of rules," MCGM commissioner Jairaj Phatak told media-persons in Mumbai.

'Change in user' refers to change or alteration of the property from that reserved by the civic body.

For changing the use of a premise, permission has to be sought from the MCGM, which Khan reportedly failed to do. The notice is returnable within 30 days. If there is no reply to the notice, then legal action will be initiated against him, Ashok Shintre, chief engineer (development and planning), said.

Khan has also been asked to submit documents related to the alterations made by him in the premises, Pathak said. The recourse available to Khan is either to apply for regularisation of the premises or restore the property to its original outlay, MCGM officials said.

If Khan fails to reply to the notice, he may have to pay fine of Rs 50 per sq mtr, Phatak said when asked about the action that can be taken against the actor.
