Samajwadi Party demands CBI probe into CMO murder

June 20, 2011 18:30 IST

Samajwadi Party on Monday demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into the killing of Chief Medical Officer B P Singh in Uttar Pradesh alleging involvement of state ministers in the crime and accusing the police of protecting them.

Without naming anyone, SP leader Shivpal Singh Yadav said some UP ministers were involved in the murder of the CMO and are being shielded by the state police.

Noting that the murder could be a result of alleged involvement of ministers in a 'scam worth crores of rupees in the National Rural Health Mission funds', he demanded a CBI inquiry into the killing of Singh.

"The state government claimed to have worked out the case stating Deputy CMO Y S Sachan was the mastermind. But the scam of crores of rupees in NRHM funds is not possible without involvement of ministers. We demand a CBI probe into it," SP leader Shivpal Singh Yadav said.

CMO (Family Welare) B P Singh was murdered on April 2, while he was on a morning walk. During investigations, large scale anomalies were detected in NRHM funds in the state.

Health Minister Anant Kumar Mishra and Family Welfare Minister Babu Singh Khushwaha had resigned taking moral responsibility.
