Union Coal Minister Shibu Soren was on Tuesday night lodged in Tihar jail soon after he was convicted by a Delhi court in a murder case.

After the court order, the 62-year-old chief of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha complained of uneasiness and was taken to a civil hospital near Tis Hazari court where he underwent a routine medical check-up.

Soren was taken to Tihar after doctors declared that his condition was normal.

Earlier in the day, a Delhi court held Soren guilty of involvement in the killing of his private secretary Shashi Nath Jha 12 years ago in the first such conviction of a Union minister in a murder case.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has accepted Soren's resignation as coal minister, PM's media adviser Sanjaya Baru said.
