UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi left for New Delhi on Saturday evening after attending the Olympics opening ceremony.

Sonia met Chinese Vice-President Xi Jinping during her visit and an MoU was also signed between the Congress and the ruling Communist Party of China aimed at promoting regular party-to-party exchanges.

After cheering the Indian contingent at Olympic opening ceremony she had also attended a banquet hosted for visiting foreign dignitaries by Chinese President Hu Jintao.

During the opening ceremony Sonia stood and waved enthusiastically as soon as the 56-member IndianĀ  delegation led by shooter Rajyawardhan Singh Rathore entered the 'Bird's Nest' stadium at the Olympic Village in the Chinese Capital.
