All India Congress Committee President Sonia Gandhi on Monday offered a chadar at the dargah of Sufi saint Moinuddin Chishti on the occasion of the 801st Urs.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot offered the chadar on behalf of Gandhi.
Handing over the chadar to Congress leaders yesterday, the AICC president had also sent a message saying, “Hazarat Khawaja Moinuddin Chisti is regarded as one of the foremost Sufis of the world. He brought people of diverse persuasions on the same platform and for him, they were all children of God without any distinction of caste and creed, region or race.”
"Hazarat Khawaja Moinuddin Chisti, the 'Gharib Nawaz' has been a symbol of communal harmony and togetherness. On this auspicious occasion of the 801st anniversary of the Khawaja's Urs, on the behalf of my party, I pay my deepest respects to the sacred soul and send my good wishes to all his devout followers who have gathered here from all over the world.”
AICC General Secretary Mukul Vasnik read out the message at the Mehfil-Khana of the dargah.
Khadim of Gandhi family Syed Gani Gurdeji performed dastar bandi (turban ceremony) for all the leaders and gave them tabarrukah (prasad).
Gurdeji also sent a chunari and tabarrukh for Gandhi.
Union Minister of State Sachin Pilot, state PCC president Chanderbhan, state Health Minister Durru Miyan, Member of Rajya Sabha Prabha Thakur, Mayor Kamal Bakolia, Ashak Ali Tak and other PCC leaders were also present in the chadar procession at the dargah.
801st Urs started from May 11 and will conclude on May 17 with 'Chatti' ceremony.
