The Bombay high court on Wednesday asked the Maharashtra government to convene a meeting of all concerned parties to review the slum rehabilitation programme.

The court also asked the state to come up with reasonable solutions to rehabilitate post-1995 and pre-2000 slum-dwellers in the city.

A division bench of Chief Justice Dalveer Bhandari and S J Vazifdar adjourned the matter till July 11.

The chief justice said that for a proper rehabilitation of Mumbai's slum dwellers, political will and a proper housing policy is necessary.

The court reasoned that since a majority of slum dwellers are employed in Mumbai, there was no point in rehabilitating them 50-70 km away.
