A similar low intensity bomb exploded in Pune on August 1, 2012, on the busy Jangli Maharaj road. One person was injured in the blast where cycles were used to plant the explosive.

The police station where the blast took place is near the famous Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati temple. The police had claimed that in 2010 it foiled an attack on the temple.
