There is different sort of buzz these days in Bengaluru, far different from the traffic mess on the city's roads.

The colourful flowers on display at the Lalbagh botanical garden are drawing hundreds of people.

The week-long show, organised by the Karnataka State Horticulture Department and Mysore Horticultural Society, has over 350 varieties of flowers, including roses, marigolds, geranium and brachycome and celosia on display.

On Wednesday morning, there were nearly 1000 people gathered at Lalbagh to witness this annual event, conducted a week before Independence Day.

A couple of visitors said the show this time is better compared to last year.

There are more varieties of flowers this year and the display is a treat to the eye.

The visitors made a beeline to the glasshouse, which has the main display. A dinosaur made from roses is an instant hit at least with the children.

An officer from the state Horticulture department said the turnout this year was much more compared to the previous years.
"We have been bettering the show every year and I can say that we have put up one of the best shows this year."

Lalbagh is considered as one of the best gardens in the country and is spread over 240 acres.

Although it witnesses a lot of visitors throughout the year, the crowd is the most at the time of the flower show.

Besides the flowers on display, there are also several private nurseries, which have put up stalls.

The bonsais in particular are a big hit. Apart from this there are also ornamental plants and medicinal plants.
