'I will do all I can in my might to make Delhi safe for women'

“The citizens in Delhi know that December 4 elections are for Delhi and not the general elections. We are suffering from pro-incumbency and not anti-incumbency," says a confident Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit in an interview with CNN-IBN.

Excerpts from the interview

On women's safety

“I will do all that I can in my might to make Delhi safe for women. We are in constant touch with the police so that they can update their system to make it more accessible to them. We have taken a lot of steps to make Delhi safe for women,” she said.

Refuting charges of corruption

Sheila Dikshit said her government will act if anyone brings any case to her notice. “Where is corruption? Show it to me and I will act against corruption," she said.

"If there was a question on increase of assets, tell some one to raid and find out but just because their incomes have gone up, is it a sin?" she said.

Jibe at the Aam Aadmi Party

“Those who took jhadoo (broom, which is AAP's symbol) are now facing charges of corruption. There are those who took up jhadoo to clean up corruption but the sting operation has shown that even they are corrupt," she said.

However, she did not rule out the possibility of an alliance with the AAP if no party gets a majority in the Delhi polls. "Won't comment on alliance with AAP. I didn't rule it out, I didn't rule it in," said Sheila.

On the way Arvind Kejriwal's party is working

The Delhi chief minister said she is disappointed. "I am not worried about Arvind Kejriwal, certainly disappointed with him," she said.

Heaping praise on the Congress

"If there is one party that abides by the code of conduct and the Election Commission, it is Congress."

Cheaper electricity

The chief minister clarified that parties promising cheaper electricity were removed from reality. "The cost of purchase of power has risen by 300 per cent and prices have risen by 65 per cent. Those who are unable to pay the high cost have been given subsidy. It is so easy to be in the opposition and raise questions. The bills are not inflated, if there is some problem in the meter, you can send applications and get it rectified," she said.

She said that price rise pinches her too. "We are the most accessible government, I meet all those who come to me," she said.
