At least 12 people were killed and 2,000 houses destroyed over the weekend by a fire that devastated parts of the Chilean port city of Valparaiso, as authorities evacuated thousands and sent in aircraft to battle the blaze.

It was immediately impossible to determine how that many bullet cases appeared on the street.
Police detained 70 pro-Moscow protesters occupying a regional administration building in eastern Ukraine overnight, but others held out in a standoff in two further cities in what Kiev says is a Russian-led plan to dismember the country.
The standoff, however, continued in the mining centre of Donetsk -- Yanukovich's home base -- where a group of pro-Russian deputies inside the main regional authority building on Monday declared a separatist republic.

The General Yermolov Cadet School in the southern Russian city of Stavropol is a state-run institution that teaches military and patriotic classes in addition to a normal syllabus.
The school allows its pupils to take part in field-training trips, during which they spend time at a base and undergo physical drills and weapons training.
The outings are seen as a treat for students, and those with bad grades are not allowed to go. The school is named after the Russian imperial general Alexei Yermolov and many of its students are from military backgrounds.
