At least six terrorists have been killed after the army troopers foiled a major infiltration bid near the Line of Control in Uri Sector of north Kashmir's Baramulla district, official sources said in Srinagar on Monday.
Troops noticed some suspicious movement of a large number of terrorists near the Line of Control (LoC) in Lacchipora area of Uri sector at around 7.00 pm on Sunday, the sources said.
The terrorists, when challenged, opened indiscriminate firing towards the army positions,
The troopers returned the fire, triggering a fierce exchange between the two sides, they said.
While the encounter was still on, the sources claimed that bodies of at least six terrorists could be spotted and the number of terrorists in the infiltrating group was around 15.
This is fifth major infiltration attempt foiled by the army along the LoC in North Kashmir since the last week of June this year. As many as 14 terrorists and seven soldiers have been killed in these operations so far.
