6 NATO oil tankers razed in Pakistan

August 16, 2011 10:59 IST

In the latest attack on convoys in Pakistan carrying supplies for NATO forces in Afghanistan, at least six NATO oil tankers were set ablaze in Muzaffargarh in the wee hours of Tuesday.

According to police, unidentified armed men opened fire at 12 NATO oil tankers parked outside a restaurant at Mianwali-Multan road in Muzaffargarh.

As a result, six of the tankers caught fire, while the miscreants managed to flee from the scene.

The Multan-Mianwali road was closed for vehicular traffic after the incident, The News reports.

The road was opened for traffic when Rescue 1122 controlled the fire after one-and-a-half-hour hectic efforts.

NATO trucks and oil tankers are regularly targeted with arson attacks blamed on insurgents attempting to disrupt the two key supply lines, which cross western Pakistan bound for foreign troops fighting in neighbouring Afghanistan
