Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi on Monday said that a Special investigating Team has been formed to investigate the encounter of wanted criminal Manoj Vashishtha, which took place in the Rajendra Nagar area of the city.

"An SIT has been formed for the incident which took place in Rajendra Nagar, for a professional and unbiased investigation. The SIT is going to be supervised by an officer of the rank of joint commissioner. Many good officers have been drafted in this case. Our aim is to start the investigation on professional lines, so that we can show our investigation report in the court." Bassi said.

Meanwhile, the family of the deceased approached Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh for a fair probe, and he assured them of the same.

Vashishtha was shot dead by Delhi Police in an encounter at the Sagar Ratna Restaurant in the city's Old Rajender Nagar market on Friday night.

Following the shoot-out, he was taken to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
