Singer Remo summoned by cops for threatening minor girl

December 20, 2015 22:32 IST

Singer Remo Fernandes has been issued summons by Goa Police to appear before it tomorrow for allegedly threatening a minor girl, but the artiste on Sunday said he would not be able to present himself before the cops as he is out of the country for some "urgent work".

Agassaim Police officials had pasted the summons on the door of the 62-year-old singer's residence in Siolim after they did not find him there last night.

In a statement issued in Panaji on Sunday, Fernandes said, "This is to inform you that I will be unable to be present before the police officer tomorrow, December 21, as I am in Europe to attend to some very urgent work and meetings."

"This trip was planned months ago, and the ticket was booked on August 17, 2015. The date of purchase can be seen on the ticket itself," he said, attaching a copy of the ticket along with the statement.

"It's authenticity can be verified at Qatar Airways."

The singer will, however, send his lawyer to the police station on his behalf, according to the statement.

Earlier in the day, Inspector Jivba Dalvi said, "Police visited his place but he was not at home. His servant told us that he is not at home. We pasted summons on his door."

According to police, the singer allegedly threatened the minor girl on December 3 at ward number 105 of GoaMedicalCollege and Hospital.

On December 2, the girl, a native of Malvan town in Maharashtra, was walking towards Old Goa to complete her vow to St Francis Xaviers when she was allegedly hit by the car of Fernandes's son Jonah, police said.

Jonah was booked for rash driving. Police have already recorded the statement of the girl and her elder sister.

The statements of GoaMedicalCollege and Hospital's staff, who were on duty when the alleged incident happened, have also been recorded, police added.
