A professor of Indian languages in Japan is translating the Sukhmani Sahib in Japanese.
Dr Tomio Mizokami, Professor of Indian Languages at the Osaka University, is the first and only scholar in Japan who specializes in the subject.
He has already translated Jap Ji Sahib and the literary works of renowned Indian writers including Amrita Pritam, Ajit Kaur, Gurmukh Singh Musafir, Kulwant Singh Virk and Sant Singh Sekhon in Japanese.
Dr Mizokami spoke about the project while interacting with students at the Punjabi department of the Guru Nanak Dev University in Punjab on Monday.
Dr Mizokami said the Japanese were good in writing Punjabi language but their verbal aspect was poor while on the other hand the American youth of Indian origin were good at pronunciation of Punjabi language.
But at the same time, Dr Mizokami said, they were weak in writing Punjabi language.
Dr Mizokami also said that there should be some academic and cultural exchange programme of students and faculty between Osaka University and GNDU.
