Normal life was hit in the Kashmir Valley on Thursday following a protest shutdown called by the separatists against the arrival of Indian Army in the region on this day in 1947.
Shops and business establishments were closed in summer capital Srinagar and public transport was off the roads in response to the strike called by both groups of the separatist All Parties Hurriyat Conference.
However, skeletal private transport was seen plying in the city.
Attendance in state government offices, educational institutions and banks was thin.
It was on this day in 1947 that the first batch of Indian Army landed at the Srinagar airport after the state acceded to India.
