A 65-year-old man was killed in cross fire with the police after he shot his 16-year-old neighbour in Andheri locality of Mumbai.

The girl, identified as Himani Mehta, died on the spot. Two policemen also sustained injuries in the crossfire.

According to preliminary reports, the man shot dead by the police has been identified as Harish Maroliya, a retired excise department official and a practicing lawyer.

Maroliya was apparently annoyed by some renovation work underway in the 4th-floor

flat of Mehta at Sourang society located in Bhardawadi area of the western suburb of Mumbai. As the argument turned violent, apartment residents called the cops.

Undeterred by the presence of armed policemen, Moraliya shot Himani. He then allegedly fired at the cops, injuring a sub-inspector and a constable. The advocate was injured in retaliatory fire by the cops. He, however, succumbed to bullet wounds on the way to the hospital.
