R K Sharma's daughter abused me: Witness

July 29, 2004 20:01 IST

A key witness in the Shivani Bhatnagar murder case on Thursday complained to a Delhi court that she was abused by prime accused R K Sharma's daughter after she deposed against the senior IPS officer in the court yesterday and urged it to "protect" her.

Sejal Shah, a documentary maker from Mumbai, lodged a written complaint with Additional Sessions Judge Sunil Gaur alleging that Sharma's daughter verbally abused her yesterday inside the court room after the hearing was adjourned.

"I'm shocked and outraged that they can intimidate a witness so openly not fearing you or the sanctity of the court. I'm afraid that this may result in further harm and I could be physically abused and harmed," Shah, who was a one-time roommate of deceased Shivani said in her complaint.

"I think it is the duty of the court to protect me and spare me from intimidation and harm," the complaint said and urged the court to 'take strong and proper action against this so that other witnesses are spared this humilitation'.

Shah, who had shared an apartment with Shivani in London, where they had gone for a three-month course, told the court yesterday that she was privy to the 'love affair' between the slain journalist and Sharma.

She said Shivani told her in London that Sharma was her close friend and that she was in love with him and was having an affair with him. Shah also identified Sharma in the court.

Her cross-examination continued today. She stuck to her statement and said "I did not identify accused R K Sharma at any time either before the police or before any court except this court."
