Two hardcore militants belonging to Achik Matgrik Elite Forces were killed in a joint operation launched by the army and the Meghalaya police near interior Radi village in North Garo Hills district of Meghalaya in the wee hours of Sunday.

Security forces recovered two pistols, some ammunition from the slain militants, a defence source informed.

This is a major success for the army in the ongoing counter-insurgency operations in Gari hills areas of Meghalaya.

The AMEF is one of the many terrorist/anti-national outfits operating in Garo hills areas of Meghalaya and Goalpara district of western Assam.

The outfit indulges in rampant extortion and kidnapping for ransom.
