The Secret Service has reportedly arrested an intruder who climbed the White House fence on late Sunday night, marking the latest incident in a series of security breaches at the presidential residence since last year.
The incident took place at about 10:25 pm on the south side of the White House complex, which faces the Washington Monument, reported The Washington Post.
Secret Service spokesman Brian Leary said that the fence-climber was taken into custody immediately by officers in the agency's uniformed division.
The individual was also carrying a package that was examined and found to be harmless, Leary said. The person's name or gender wasn't released.
The Secret Service has received heavy criticism for a number of recent security breaches, including an intruder climbing the White House fence last year and reaching the interior of the building before being caught by agents.
