Sarpanch shot dead by Naxals in Gadchiroli

A village sarpanch was shot dead by a group of armed Naxals in Sironcha taluqa, the police said on Wednesday. The incident took place last night at Tekda Motla village after victim Narayan Shankar Sirangi, 37 was dragged out of his residence by a gang of 15-20 unidentified naxals and taken to Somanpalli road, where they shot him dead.

Though the cause behind the killing is not known yet, sources said that Sirangi was eliminated for his alleged involvement in corrupt practices.

An offence under section 302, 120 (b), 364, 506, 143, 144, 147, 148, 149 of Indian Penal Code and section 3 (25) of Indian Arms Act has been registered with Asarali police station against the Naxals, who fled the spot soon after the incident.
