'It's really sad to see such a life gone astray.'

A fellow member at the Calcutta Cricket & Football Club shares insights about Sanjeev Khanna, the alleged Sheena Bora murder co-accused, with Indrani Roy/Rediff.com

"Sanjeev Khanna was in some kind of financial difficulty and he defaulted paying club bills on many occasions," a fellow member at the Calcutta Cricket & Football Club claimed.

"The revelation about him being an accomplice in a murder was a shocker," says the middle-aged man, a member of the club panel. "I have every reason to believe that money could have been a compulsion for him."

He said he had never met Khanna's former wife Indrani. Neither had he heard anything about her from Khanna.

He met Khanna a week before his arrest, he added, and "did not notice any visible change" in him.

"He was his usual self. He smiled the same radiant smile and congratulated me on my selection as a CCFC committee member at the club elections."

Popular among club mates for his skills as a dart player and a motor rally enthusiast, Khanna, the fellow member alleged, "often drank a lot."

"On a couple of occasions, he received suspension orders. There were complaints for not paying his bills on time," this fellow member, speaking on condition that he would not be identified by name for this report, claimed.

On Khanna's alleged involvement in the Sheena Bora murder case, this CCFC committee member believes it is possible that his financial situation may have led to his assisting his former wife.

Khanna, this fellow CCFC member said, was a "helpful man who did not think twice about helping someone in need."

"He was a go-getter and knew how to get a difficult job done," the CCFC member added.

"Khanna was an intelligent man with a lot of skills," emphasised this CCFC member. "It's really sad to see such a life gone astray."
