Winding up his campaign for the Presidential election, National Democratic Alliance candidate P A Sangma on Wednesday met Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and thanked her for supporting his candidature for the top post.

"I came here to thank Jayalalithaa for giving full support to me," Sangma, pitted against United Progressive Alliance's nominee Pranab Mukherjee, told reporters after calling on the chief minister at her Poes Garden residence.

Jayalalithaa and her Odisha counterpart Naveen Patnaik were the first to propose Sangma's candidature for the election in which Mukherjee is all set to emerge victorious with numbers stacked in his favour.

Sangma said Jayalalithaa not only backed his candidature but also mobilised support from all over. "This is great strength for me," the former Lok Sabha Speaker said.

He said since on Thursday is the polling day, he came to thank Jayalalithaa, who returned here today from Kodanadu hills where she was camping.

The interaction took place ahead of the meeting of All India Anna Dravida Munetra Kazhagam party members of Parliament and members of Legislative Assembly to discuss Thursday's election.
