Salman leaves court after getting bail

May 06, 2015 22:02 IST

Securing interim bail from the Bombay High Court for two days after conviction in the 2002 hit-and-run case, Bollywood actor Salman Khan this evening came out of the Sessions Court and headed for his residence in suburban Bandra.

The 49-year-old superstar turned up at the Sessions Court at 11.15 am and remained there till 7.15 pm in court custody.

A huge crowd, most of them Salman's fans, had gathered since morning outside the court in South Mumbai. When he came out, many of them were seen running towards his car.

The actor, who occupied the front seat of the car, however, did not respond to the crowd which appeared cheerful to see Salman emerging from the court, and left for his home in Galaxy Apartments in Bandra, about 15km away.

Earlier in the day, Sessions Judge D W Deshpande, who presided over the trial, sentenced the actor to five years rigorous imprisonment after holding him guilty of culpable homicide and other charges under IPC and other relevant Acts.

Salman's lawyers swiftly moved the High Court which granted him bail till May 8 on the ground that he had not been furnished a copy of the entire judgement, but given only a two-page operative part of the verdict.

Near his residence in Bandra, a big crowd converged eagerly awaiting to have a glimpse of their favourite actor.
