SAD to go with NDA decision on Presidential poll: Badal

June 18, 2012 14:24 IST

Punjab Chief Minister and ruling Shiromani Akali Dal patron Parkash Singh Badal on Monday said his party will go by the decision of the National Democratic Alliance on the forthcoming presidential elections.

Badal said that as a constituent of the NDA, the SAD will back the decision taken in the context of the Presidential election.

"We are a part of the NDA and whatever decision they take, we will go with them," the 84-year-old veteran leader told reporters during an informal chat.

"As a key ally of the NDA, the SAD is committed to support the line of action NDA takes," he further said.

Asked in case the NDA decides to back the candidature of the Nationalist Congress Party leader P A Sangma for the President's post, Badal said, "I have made my stand clear, which is we will follow whatever NDA thinks is best".

On being asked whether Sangma was coming to meet him to seek his party's support, Badal said, "...I am leaving for Mansa now."

He also played down queries when asked whether his name was in contention for the post of the vice president.

As he hurried to leave, Badal in a lighter vein said, "you can make me anything".

On June 4, Badal's Deputy and SAD President, Sukhbir Singh Badal had said neither the NDA had offered the post of country's vice-president to Parkash Singh Badal nor he was interested in it.
