Akhilesh Das, the former Union Minister of State for Steel, has been asked by the Rajya Sabha Housing Committee to vacate his Lodi Estate bungalow.
The former Rajya Sabha member has been served notice to vacate the 11 Lodi Estate bungalow immediately as he is no longer entitled to occupy the house, said a senior official in the Rajya Sabha Housing Committee headed by Congress MP Jai Prakash Aggarwal.
"Das had written to the committee for a six-month extension. But it has been rejected and he has been asked to vacate it as soon as possible," the official said, adding that the bungalow has been alloted to another Rajya Sabha MP.
Das could not be contacted for comment as he is currently in London on a personal visit.
He was dropped from the Council of Ministers in the April reshuffle. Das's term in the Rajya Sabha was coming to an end in November this year.
Later, he joined the BSP which declared him as its Lucknow Lok Sabha candidate.
The Rajya Sabha Housing Committee has also issued eviction notice on former vice-president Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, who has been asked to vacate the 12 Teenmurti Lane house. "Shekhawat has been holding it for more than two years under guest accommodation. Now he has to vacate it," the official said.
Shekhawat had resigned from the vice-president's post on July 21 and the government had allotted him a type VIII bungalow in Aurangazeb Road.
