Even as the many parts of the world are grappling with under-nutrition, around 500 million people are suffering from obesity.

The report titled Food and Nutrition in Numbers 2014, produced jointly by the Food and Agriculture Organization's Statistics and Nutrition Divisions, provides in-depth data about food consumption and nutrition around the world.

The map above shows the percentage of people around the world who tend to, on a regular basis, consume excessive food as compared to their personal energy requirement.

As you explore the map, notice how over-consumption prevails in most nations in Europe and North America and how the numbers decline in Africa. (Areas marked white are those for which data is not available)
