Malaria deaths down, dengue up in India

Mosquitoes claim most human lives worldwide; the threat is highest in tropical regions.

The graphic, above, shows the change in number of deaths in India due to malaria and dengue over the last few years.

The map, above, shows how 2012's malaria and dengue deaths were spread across India.

Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Odisha and Tamil Nadu are among the worst-hit while Himachal Pradesh, Manipur and Sikkim have reported no instances of deaths from either Malaria or Dengue.
