The 'Swachch Sarvekshan-2016' survey, released by the Urban Development ministry recently, ranked Indian cities on the parameters of cleanliness and sanitation.

According to the survey, Mysore retains its position as the cleanest city followed by Chandigarh and Tiruchirappalli while Dhanbad in Jharkhand has been rated the dirtiest.

The map, above, shows the rank and category of 73 cities that were surveyed for cleanliness by the government. The rank has been determined on the basis of the total marks a city has scored out of 2000. The categories have been classified as:

  • Leader (More than 70% of the total marks)
  • Aspiring Leader (60% - 70%)
  • Acceleration required (50% - 60%)
  • Slow Mover (Below 50%)
