No IAEA inspections in R&D institutions: Govt

The government Wednesday asserted that no inspections by the Internatioal Atomic Energy Agency are being carried out in any of the R&D institutions in India.

Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office Prithviraj Chavan informed the Lok Sabha in a written reply that IAEA inspection on facilities covered by safeguards with IAEA will not hamper the quality and scope of ongoing research.

To another question, the minister said two more units of the Rajasthan Atomic Power Station are expected to be completed in 2007-08 and adequate funds have been allcoated by the government for the timely completion of these units. Four nuclear power reactions are already in operation at RAPT with a total capacity of 740 mw.
