Union Kapil Sibal and Subodh Kant Sahay, who were part of the delegation that had held talks Baba Ramdev held a joint press on Saturday evening where they announced that the yoga guru had told the he would calle off his fast against corruption. They also produced a letter written by Ramdev.
"We will distribute the letter to mediapersons. He has written in the letter that on Saturday afternoon he would call of his indefinite hunger strike but attempts to contact him proved futile," said the Union telecom and HRD minister, as he waved a copy of the letter in Hindi.
According to Sibal, Ramdev had given the letter to him and Sahay after Friday's meeting at Delhi's Imperial Hotel, which lasted for over four hours.
Sibal said the government had agreed to constitute a committee to form a law for tracking black money. "We are ready to declare black money stashed abroad as national wealth, says HRD Minister Kapil Sibal. We have honoured all our commitments. We have already reached out, but we can also rein in. We are accommodative but we can also be firm, he said Sibal.
However, Ramdev said that he was forced to sign the letter Sibal was showing. Saying that the government had betrayed him, he said he will no longer hold talks over the phone. He also dared the government to arrest him.
Incidentally, the Delhi police has gone on record that Ramdev had got the permission to hold yoga camp at Ramalila ground and no other activity. Delhi police chief B K Gupta said he is awaiting clearance from the home ministry to vacate the ground.
