Ramdev arrest: Cops register case against unnamed persons

Last updated on: June 05, 2011 16:19 IST

The Delhi police have registered a case against unnamed persons on charges of rioting in connection with the Baba Ramdev-led protest at Ramleela maidan on Sunday.

Sources said the case was registered at the Kamla Market police station against unidentified people on charges of rioting, preventing public servants from discharging their duty and damaging public property.

The police had, early on Sunday morning, swooped down on the Ramleela maidan where Ramdev had launched a hunger strike over the issue of black money, after cancelling the permission for his programme.

Security personnel resorted to lobbing teargas shells and lathicharge after protestors in their thousands tried to prevent them from evicting them from the agitation site. Several people were injured in the incident.

The police action came after Ramdev did not call off his fast as per an "agreement" with the government to do so.
