Bihar Governor Buta Singh on Monday ordered a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the murder of former Congress member of Parliament P Rajo Singh.
Official sources in Raj Bhawan said Buta Singh had recommended the centre for a CBI probe into Rajo Singh's murder.
Rajo Singh was shot dead inside the Congress office in Sheikhpura district in Bihar on Friday night by 3 unidentified criminals.
The senior Congress leader had won the Lok Sabha seat in 1998 and 1999. He was also former member of the Legislative Assembly.
Congress General Secretary and party incharge of Bihar affairs Digvijay Singh had on Sunday demanded a CBI inquiry into Singh's murder. He termed it as a political murder which had several angles.
Earlier, Lok Janshakti Party chief and Union Steel Minister Ram Vilas Paswan also sought a CBI probe into the Congress leader's killing.
Police has arrested a person in this connection and conducted raids at several places. The police had registered a first information report against 7 persons, including former minister in the Rabri Devi government and senior Congress leader Ashok Chaudhary and district Rashtriya Janata Dal president Lattu Yadav in connection with Singh's killing.
However, RJD leader Anil Mahato surrendered before a court in Shiekhpura on Monday in connection with Singh's murder. Mahto was one of the accused named in the FIR.
