Pune blasts probe may be handed over to NIA

August 09, 2012 20:53 IST

The probe into the August one multiple blasts in Pune is likely to be handed over to National Investigation Agency.

The home ministry is in touch with the Maharashtra government for taking a decision to hand over the Pune blasts case to NIA, which is mandated to probe all terror related cases, official sources said.

Maharashtra Police is currently investigating the case but so far it has not achieved any breakthrough. Since the NIA has been able to achieve success in a number of cases, including blast in Delhi high court and explosion in Samjhauta Express, the Home Ministry officials are of the opinion that the case should be handed over to NIA.

The lone injured person in the August one serial bomb explosions is being questioned by Maharashtra Anti Terrorism Squad officials.

Police have already stated that Dayanand Patil, in whose carry bag one of the explosives went off near Balghandharva Theatre, was not under detention or arrest and was being interrogated only to know details of the events leading to the blasts.
