Three militants of the Hizbul Mujaheedin outfit were killed in a fierce encounter in south Kashmir’s Tral area in Pulwama district on Thursday evening.
A senior police officer said two army troopers were also injured in the gunfight which erupted after troops of Rashtriya Rifles and Special Operations Group of the Jammu and Kashmir police surrounded Buchoo area
of Tral late on Thursday afternoon on specific information about presence of a group of militants there.
“As the security forces were searching the area, hiding militants opened fire triggering an encounter at the end of which three militants were killed,” the officer said.
He said the area is still under cordon and searches are continuing.
The officer said three AK-47 rifles were recovered from the encounter site.
