Rajendra Vadra, the father-in-law of Priyanka Gandhi, who was suffering from cirrhosis of liver, died in New Delhi, his family said on Friday.

Rajendra, the father of Robert Vadra who married Congress president Sonia Gandhi's daughter, died on Thursday at his residence in New Delhi, they said.

He underwent treatment for cirrhosis at the Max Hospital in New Delhi and was discharged about 12 days ago, a hospital official told PTI.

Vadra was in his sixties. He was cremated at the Lodhi Road crematorium. Congress president Sonia Gandhi, her son Rahul, Priyanka and her husband Robert Vadra along with other relatives were present at the cremation.

Differences cropped up between Robert and his father few years back resulting in the son issuing a public notice in newspapers stating that Rajender Vadra and his brother Richard were "duping" people by promising jobs and other favours while claiming that they were working on his behalf.

Later, the father also threatened to file a defamation case against Robert.
