The Congress party's real estate bank has been receiving complaints from state units, and Priyanka Gandhi's first formal responsibility maybe to address these woes.
With Congress president Sonia Gandhi's health flailing and vice president Rahul Gandhi work burden, Priyanka Gandhi may soon be seen joining the Congress party's top ranks to share some responsibility with her brother, sources told rediff.com on Monday.
According to sources, an indication of this was that Priyanka has been taking a keen interest in the All India Congress Committee's, particularly its real estate aspect which is estimated to be worth around Rs 35,000 crore. Primarily this comprises the buildings housing various state Congress committees but which are controlled by AICC trusts.
Party insiders claim that complaints have been coming in about some Congress leaders embezzling funds received from immovable assets like party buildings, which are now being routed to Priyanka.
The funds derived from these assets are utilised to manage the party state units' expenses.
Senior Congress leaders in Delhi interpret Priyanka’s interest in weeding out those who thrive on the PCCs' real estate as a sign that she will enter politics by the year-end, soon after her brother formally takes over the Congress party. In all likelihood, she will be named the Mahila Morcha, they believe.
