Pranab, Sonia pay tribute to Indira on 31st death anniversary

The nation on Saturday remembered former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her 31st death anniversary with President Pranab Mukherjee, Vice President Hamid Ansari and other leaders paying tributes at her memorial in New Delhi.

President Pranab Mukherjee, paying homage at the Samadhi of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

Mukherjee, Congress President Sonia Gandhi and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh paid floral tributes to the leader at Shakti Sthal. Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi and other senior party leaders Motilal Vora, Ahmed Patel, Ashok Gehlot also paid tributes to Indira Gandhi.

Several leaders from Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee and Indian Youth Congress were also present along with Delhi Pradesh Mahila Congress chief Barkha Singh.

Devotional songs were played at the venue. A speech made by Indira was also played on the occasion. People, who visited Shakti Sthal, raised slogans hailing Indira Gandhi.

Indira was assassinated by her bodyguards on October 31, 1984.
