July 08, 2015 21:51 IST

Police are probing the case of a "mischievous and false" message about Bollywood superstar Salman Khan, circulating on popular social networking platform WhatsApp.

A complaint in this regard was received on behalf of the 49-year-old actor, whose next film "Bajrangi Bhaijaan" is slated to hit theatres on July 17, more than a week ago, police said on Wednesday.

The screen shot of the post that has been shared has him saying that his movie can be hit without the support of his 'Muslim' fans has been used by a news channel, CNN IBN reports. The screen shot appears to be morphed.

"A written complaint was given more than a week ago by Khan's manager alleging that someone tried to besmirch Khan's reputation by circulating a false and mischievous post about him on WhatsApp," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Detection) Dhananjay Kulkarni.

The case, in which no one has been arrested till now, is being probed by Cyber Crime wing of Crime Branch. Police declined to divulge the content of the post.

Investigations are on but no FIR has been registered yet, said Kulkarni.
