Militants shot at and killed a police constable and wounded another person in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Saturday morning.

A senior police officer told Rediff.com that militants fired at constable, Zahoor Ahmad, personal security officer (PSO) of National Conference MLA for Homeshalibugh constituency.

"The constable was critically wounded in the firing and succumbed later. Another person identified as Zahoor Ahmad Illahi, who was with the constable, was also injured and evacuated to hospital for treatment," the officer said.

Senior police officers rushed to the spot and the area was cordoned off for searches. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
