A joint team of the Border Security Force and the Chhattisgarh police on Friday busted a bomb-making unit of the banned Communist Party of India - Maoist and seized around 300 kg of explosives and equipment used for assembling IEDs.

A joint team of the BSF, Special Task Force and Kanker district police raided a Maoist hideout in the forest between Beenagunda and Uchhekoti villages in Abuzamad area, where they came under hostile fire, said Kanker district police chief Rahul Bhagat

Bhagat said the Maoists retreated after opening fire and there was no report of any injury to the police contingent.

Police later searched the hideout and found the cache of explosives and equipment used for manufacturing IEDs.

"We seized ammonium nitrate, TNT, a huge stock of detonators, Cardex Wire measuring 200 meters and live cartridges from large drums kept at the spot during the operation," said Bhagat.

The squad had been combing the jungles in search of the Maoists for the last three days, he said.
