Police bust major fake currency haul in Bangalore

September 11, 2012 20:18 IST

In a major fake currency haul, the Bangalore police on Tuesday arrested nine persons and seized fake currency worth Rs 40 lakh. The police also seized six carbines, guns and six revolvers.

The police have arrested Rehman, Jeevan, Buntu Singh, Pradeep and others in this case. They have, however, ruled out a terror angle to the case and said that the fake currency was being circulated in the market while the arms were meant to be supplied to rouge elements in the city.

The accused got their supply through the Indo-Bangladesh border, the police said. It is alleged that the same gang was supplying fake currency to other parts of the country as well. It is said that their main job was to supply arms, but it was mandatory for them to carry fake currency into India. This has been found among other operatives as well, where they have acted as carriers of fake currency.
