Pakistan Foreign Minister Khurshid M Kasuri and Foreign Secretary Riaz Mohammad Khan on Tuesday briefed leaders of the Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on the outcome of the recent talks between the foreign secretaries of India and Pakistan and "progress" made on the Kashmir issue.
"We have briefed them on policy formulation, the recent foreign secretary-level talks and the plans for the forthcoming foreign ministers meeting," Kasuri told reporters after the briefing.
Kasuri said that in the meeting with PoK leaders, he emphasised that Pakistan's policy on Jammu and Kashmir was based on the premise that its final settlement had to be in accordance with the wishes and aspirations of Kashmiri people.
"Pakistan has made this clear to the Indian side at every level of bilateral talks," he said.
Kasuri gave a background of various proposals by President Pervez Musharraf and explained in detail the main aspects of these proposals.
He said as a result of Pakistan's policy of constant engagement with the international community and with India, the Kashmir issue was receiving appropriate attention.
Reiterating Pakistan's commitment to the Kashmir issue, he assured the Kashmiri leaders that the process of consultation with them would continue in future as well.
The meeting was attended by PoK President Raja Zulqarnain Khan, Prime Minister Attique Ahmed Khan, Pakistan's Minister for Religious Affairs Ijazul Haq as well as members of Parliament from the PoK Assembly, Legislative Council and leaders of various sections of Kashmiri opinion.
