A suspected poacher was killed in firing by National Defence Academy's security guards in Pune on Friday when a group of individuals tried to enter its premises. The group allegedly trespassed to cut sandalwood trees in the campus of the premier military training institute in the country.
According to sources, some individuals tried to enter the NDA campus in the wee hours of Friday. The security guards patrolling the area tried to stop them. When the guards asked the trespassers to surrender, they fired at them.
The security guards retaliated as the intruders tried to flee. The NDA guards kept searching the area. The found the body of one person, who appeared to have been killed in the firing.
Nitin Darekar, senior police inspector, Warje Malwadi police station, said, “The deceased has been identified as Karmas Rajput, about 22 years of age, who hailed from Madhya Pradesh. He lived in the slum near the Talegaon railway station and had come here along with other accomplices. The incident took place around 3:30 am. We are still looking out for other three persons who fled the spot.”
NDA spokesperson confirmed that four persons believed to be poachers tried to enter the campus and one of them was killed in the encounter with the security guards.
The NDA was put on high alert last month after a warning that it was on the radar of terrorist organisations.
