Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has started a janata durbar (people's court) to know the problems of the people.

Officers in the Prime Minister's Office have been assigned to receive grievances and as and when many requests are received, Singh addresses them, sources said.

"Singh has already started it and has had held a few such meetings," a source said.

Former prime ministers Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi also had the practice of meeting people directly to know their problems.

The durbar was also quite popular when former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee used to meet people till the practice was suspended midway during his tenure.
