PM, Sonia to visit violence-hit Assam today

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and United Progressive Alliance chairperson Sonia Gandhi will visit strife-torn Kokrajhar district in Assam on Saturday to take stock of the situation.

Large-scale violence, which has rocked the state, particularly Kokrajhar and Chirang districts, has claimed 50 lives so far.

Immediately after their arrival, the PM and Gandhi will go to Kokrajhar
by a special chopper, official sources said.

They are scheduled to visit a relief camp at Falakati and review the situation with Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and Bodoland Territorial Areas District leaders at Kokrajhar.Both the leaders are scheduled to address a high-level review meeting with Gogoi, state cabinet ministers and top police and army officials.
