Please don't discuss party's PM candidate: Rajnath to BJP leaders

January 31, 2013 14:43 IST

Bharatiya Janata Party president Rajnath Singh plans to constitute a new parliamentary board for the party soon.

"As and when I do that, I would announce it to the media," Singh told rediff.com over the phone.

He urged party leaders to refrain from making comments about who should be projected as the party’s prime-ministerial candidate for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

Names of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj are being mentioned prominently by various lobbies.

Meanwhile, leaders of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and the Bharatiya Janata Party met in New Delhi on Thursday to sort out the differences between the saffron party and its parent body.

A recent meeting between Singh and Modi has given rise to speculations that the latter would lead the party in the 2014 national elections. Many senior leaders have reacted sharply to this development and conveyed their resentment to the party chief.

Rajnath was summoned by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, who asked him to put an end to the rift between  the senior political leaders.
