The Kerala High Court on Wednesday dismissed a PIL seeking a direction not to prohibit singer K J Yesudas from entering the famous Guruvayur Sri Krishna temple to worship.

Holding that the PIL was "unnecessary", a division bench comprising justices Thothathil B Radhakrishnan and P S Gopinathan dismissed it with a cost of Rs 1 for misusing the PIL provision.

Yesudas, a Christian by birth, was denied entry to the temple which observes Hindu religious rites.

The bench asked petitioner Lalitha Vasudevan what was the need for entertaining her PIL at the instance of a stranger, since Yesudas does not appear to be an individual who needs PIL assistance for redressal of his grievance.

Vasudevan cannot make the question of entry of Yesudas into Guruvayur temple as 'justiciable' as part of the petitioner's right to propagate religion, the bench said.

The court held that Vasudevan was trying to extend to Yesudas unsolicited aid which even he may not relish "since belief is one that is purely personal".
