Prez, PM attend prayer meet for Gandhi death anniversary

An inter-faith prayer meeting was held on Friday on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi's 67th death anniversary at Gandhi Smriti in New Delhi.

Vice-President Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Tourism Minister Mahesh Kumar, Minister of State for Urban Development Babul Supriyo were among those who attended the programme.

The prayer meet saw participation by over 100 disabled children along with students from various city schools.

Ansari and Modi paid floral tributes to the Father of the Nation amidst rendition of devotional songs by various artistes, including renowned singer Suresh Wadkar.

Supriyo, a singer himself, sang 'Pyaar Baantte Chalo', which encapsulates the spirit of national unity and harmony.

A two-minute silence was also observed by those present at Gandhi Smriti, which was formerly known as Birla House. It is here that Gandhi spent the last 144 days of his life and was assassinated on January 30, 1948.
